Support Handmade!

In the spirit of trying to help out other creators of handmade products, I'm trying to take the time and buy things I normally bought at the store through the handmade marketplace. My first acquisitions came from http://www.lonestarwaxworks.etsy.com/. I purchased the 8 oz. square mason jars in Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper and the Pumpkin Cheesecake.

I first have the say the packaging is adorable. I love the mason jars with the WANTED "posters" on the front and the store's name and phone number. They both smell awesome and I'm burning the Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper as I type. It is quite refreshing! You can definitely smell the orange. I'm saving the Pumpkin Cheesecake candle for Thanksgiving.

I will definitely be a repeat customer to this shop. There are many scents to choose from and the shop also carries room spray, tea lights and Varmints -B Gone hand sanitizer (how cute is that!). Thanks LonestarWaxWorks!

Add some googly eyes

I'm not sure if it is a new trend or if it has just been striking my curiosity lately, but I've really been noticing googly eyes. I think it is such a fun way to make little creatures stand out. Make them a little creepier by adding googlies of different sizes.
I used Bo Bunny's Boo Crew collection and added some googly eyes on these gift tags.

Loving the colors of Halloween

As I gear up for my Fall craft shows, I am completely mesmerized shopping for Fall and Halloween. I just love the colors of Fall. My favorite collection so far is Boo to You by My Mind's Eye. This is an adorable Halloween line using muted colors. The little monsters are just adorable!

Check them out at:

http://www.mymindseye.com/BooToYou.asp.

Also a bit non-traditional, I have found spider web place mats and table runners. Cut them up and use them as web accents on your crafts and/or scrapbook pages.

Check back for some pics of my completed projects:)

PBAs--Great Gift Idea

For the past few years, I've been on a kick to introduce new types of paper crafts to the community--whether it be at craft fairs or given as gifts. I've received very positive feedback on my paper bag albums (pbas). Yes--Paper Bag Albums--constructed from brown paper bags!

Easy directions:

1. Start off with 3 paper bags. There are generally two sizes but I prefer the largers ones. Folded they will be approximately 6" x 6". Alternate the bags and fold in half. I use a 3-ring punch to punch the holes about 1/4" from the fold.

2. Theme: I've made bags celebrating Mom, Halloween, Birthdays, Weddings, Baby, Recipes--just about anything! They are also a great personalized album to give to a child to keep their own photos.

3. I adhere all of my background cardstock/paper first. I measure the size of the folded paper bags and crop my paper to those specifications and adhere. I then go through the "inside" pages and add embellishments, ribbon, quotes and photo mats. The front of the album I save for last and the back I only use cardstock.

4. Make use of the openings of the paper bags! I use them to tuck journaling tags, extra photo mats and recipe cards.

It makes for a great craft activity to do with children, especially on those rainy, summer days!

Catching Up

Things have been a little crazy with the end of the school year and my dd being sick. I managed to get a few personal layouts completed and am working on my Etsy and Artfire stores again. I will be leaving Saturday for an all-day scrap with my girlfriends and can't wait to create!

Halloween 08

Halloween last year was unique for us. We didn't go around buying new costumes to wear for one night. We made the witch hat for Mya with black and purple glitter leaves and added spiders. She wanted to be a cute witch so she found a dress she liked. Lea is obsessed with wrestling and decided to create her own character. Of course she had to have the personality to go along with it!

My First Bear

I have seen cardstock and tear bears for a while now but wasn't so sure I'd enjoy making them. I made my first one the other night and----here he is----on this layout! Not perfection but I'm pretty proud! We'll have to see how much fun they are to keep making, lol!

Just Add Water

I was brainstorming a way to create a bath page without ducks and bubbles. I just wanted a pretty page. We captured the pic as all the water was running down Mya's face and I added a before and after pic. I decided to add flowers to accent the circle. tfl:)

My dd at 2 years

My oldest dd at two years old--oh so sweet! We took her outside to let her try out her skates and play with sidewalk chalk. I've been experimenting with different layout techniques. I normally love to add flowers and tons of embellishments but I love the background paper so much with this one that I left it bare. I'm going through all my old photos so more to come:)

AARGH!!

My dd in her pirate costume. She definitely is not a pirate princess--nothing girlie about this shipmate. She'd rather be scrubbing the decks with the guys! I did a lot of inking on this page to give the paper an aged look. I fell in love with this Prima flower that is dark olive green netting--kind of matched her costume. tfl!!

Finally scrapbooking my pics!!

I'm trying to discipline myself to scrap at least one page for one of my children per week. I've been wanting to try some big scraps of denim material on a page and thought it would go great with this photo. This is my dd at 3 years old and she was just too sweet!

Fun Buckets

My mind is always thinking of new things to alter or decorate that serve a functional purpose. I decorated this metal bucket with scrapbook paper, denim and a robot button. My son keeps his crayons in it and I print mini free coloring pages and stick them in there. Just some ideas--use rub-on transfers and decorate and fill with baby items for a baby shower; tie balloons on the handle, add a child's name with chipboard or glue wooden letters the outside and fill with little goodies.

What have I gotten into?

Waking up this morning, my head is dizzy. As if learning the depths of paper crafting isn't enough, I am now eager to learn more about sewing! I began making appliqued onesies and thirst to know more. A monster has been created!

Leftovers

I get an idea, find the perfect ribbon, and use it a handful of times. While on the zebra print kick, I decided to make a few ponytail holders for my dd. They look cute in her hair but she's never been one to keep them in long.

Wild, Wild, Wild!

I have discovered zebra print--not that it was hiding! I love the way the black and white contrasts with bright colors and makes them pop. I never thought I'd really use animal print but I've been having fun with it. I've made layouts, clipboards and just started experimenting with ribbon and hair bands.
